Guidelines for Beginning Your Own DFA (Deliria-Free America) Chapter
So you want to form your own local chapter of the DFA? Congratulations! Local volunteer chapter groups—spearheaded and organized by citizens dedicated to the continuation of a safe, equitable, and reasoned society—are the bedrock of the DFA, the largest private national organization dedicated to the destruction of amor deliria nervosa.
Even before contacting the national division of the DFA for your badges and official welcome packets, it’s important to think about who will be in your group, how the new chapter will impact your community, whether you have the time and energy to commit to its success, and how you plan to contribute to the overall mission of the group. Here are a few simple guidelines to help you get started.
Look in. Do you have what it takes to be a leader? Before you apply for recognition from the national organization, download some self-assessment quizzes from the central website (www.dfa.gov/assessment) to determine whether you really have what it takes. If the leader isn’t 100 percent strong and 100 percent committed, the group will lose focus. At the same time, the group is only as strong as its weakest link. Do not be afraid of administering tests of commitment, knowledge, strength, and intelligence to your prospective members. You will find these, and more, available on the website.
Look out. Determine how your particular branch of the DFA will work within the community. Do you have a smaller volunteer regulator force? Perhaps your chapter can pick up the slack on street patrols and raids. Is health education not up to par in your schools? Think about going door to door with health pamphlets explaining the risks of infection, or even volunteer at playgroups and after-school programs where you can interact directly with the children who need instruction.
Stay small. When in doubt, leave someone out! If a single member of the group has doubts about a potential member, do not allow them in. Inclusiveness for its own sake is indiscretion, particularly in the fight against the spread of deliria. Remember to reevaluate members regularly for signs of shifting loyalty or lack of commitment.
Be smart. Same-sex groups are strongly encouraged, even in communities where there are no legal mandates to that effect.
Cooperate. Always cooperate with local regulator branches and law enforcement. We’re on the same side! A great way of getting started is to visit your local regulating body or police station and simply ask how you can help.
